Prevention in the workplace, especially in complex companies such as those dealing with compressors, involves a set of activities and responsibilities implemented through the control of equipment efficiency in compliance with safety standards.

Every company has an obligation to check and bring all work equipment provided to its workers into compliance with standards in order to provide them with additional safety.

To ensure the perfect functioning of the systems and other machinery used within the company, it is necessary to carry out sudden tests and checks.

All this must be done to maintain the safety of the building and the workers operating within it, but above all, it must be carried out in accordance with environmental protection regulations.

As mentioned in Article 71 of Legislative Decree 81/08 and subsequent amendments, INAIL is responsible for the first periodic inspection after the installation and first use of machinery, systems, and equipment, intervening within 45 days of the employer’s request.

Since the new legislative decree requires INAIL to carry out the first periodic inspection, it is mandatory for the employer to designate a private entity authorized by INAIL to carry out the inspection in the event that the institute is unable to do so within 45 days of the request.

The checks are carried out at the expense of the employer, who is responsible for keeping the documentation relating to the systems.

The above-mentioned article has some particular features that should be noted:

  • reporting of atmospheric discharge systems
  • registration of equipment for lifting people and materials
  • registration of pressure equipment: simple and complex assemblies
  • request for an initial periodic inspection for lifting equipment for persons and materials, simple and complex assemblies, and heating systems.

Failure to carry out a test is a problem both for the end customer and for the system supplier, who will not be able to prove their non-involvement in the event at a later date.

Testing is also extremely important in the future, in order to retrieve and verify the operating data from the first start-up.
