Compressed Air Market Trends in Italy

By Germana Falcone

What is the trend in the compressed air market in Italy? There are conflicting opinions on this subject. Some believe that the market for electric air compressors is in decline. There are several factors behind this view. Some companies have relocated, others have downsized and started to pay more attention to energy use within their businesses, and others have closed down. In any case, one opinion that is shared almost universally is that, in reality, this period in history is seeing steady growth in compressor sales. Expressed in percentages, this growth amounts to 2% per year in terms of sales volume and distribution. However, the reality remains quite multifaceted. Looking more closely, sales of compressors below 30 kW of power have declined. Given this trend, small and medium-sized companies that want to stay afloat and remain competitive tend to spend a little less by focusing on the purchase of slightly lower quality (and therefore less expensive) machines, without planning future investments in this area. On the other hand, there are companies that have seen an increase in the number of small machines sold, thereby increasing their sales in this market segment. So, what does the future hold for the sale of electric air compressors? Thanks to greater attention being paid from the sales stage onwards, there will be less waste and greater investment and efficiency. For example, when a compressor is believed to be broken and in need of complete replacement, when in fact only one component is damaged, the seller will pay greater attention not only to replacing that component (rather than the entire machine), but also to gaining an in-depth understanding of the customer’s problems and real production needs, thus evaluating a whole context that would otherwise be underestimated and poorly managed.
