Compressed air compressors: how to optimize costs

By Germana Falcone

The most commonly used energy source for producing compressed air is undoubtedly electricity, which obviously has a cost. The question we ask ourselves in this article is: how can we reduce the cost of electricity for producing large quantities of air?

First of all, let’s start by saying that reducing energy costs is absolutely possible, provided that certain basic rules are followed. For example, when installing a system consisting of air compressors, it is good practice to consider all long-term requirements: industries that rely on air compressors for their operations have different needs over time, so trying to predict the long-term budget will protect us from unpleasant surprises. Planning can therefore already be considered an excellent way to save money.

Another tip we can give isto optimize energy use: the need for high performance and quality does not necessarily conflict with energy efficiency. Therefore, always look for new technological solutions to complement air compressors. While this may require a financial commitment at the time, it will allow us to save money in the long term. The point of this is: let’s not skimp on investments that allow us to improve the efficiency of our systems. For example, one component on which we should not “save” is the compressor control system. The advice in this regard is to combine the compressor’s internal control system with equipment for shared control with other compressors; this will help to improve the efficiency of the entire system.

Precise regulation of the air compressor speed is an excellent solution for saving energy, which is why we need to equip ourselves with reliable machinery capable of providing the right speed at the right time.

To make air compressors less expensive, it is also possible to reduce the pressure, perhaps during certain times of the day when a “high” speed is not necessary.

Riem Italy, a leading company in the air compressor sector, uses sophisticated instruments to process compressor data, thus ensuring the development of an energy-efficient system. If you are interested in learning more about our air compressors, please contact us at the following numbers:
